4 World Trade Center
Location Manhattan, New York
Type Mixed Use
Size 2.3 million Sq Ft
Design Architect: Maki & Associates
Architect of Record: AAI Architects, PC
The first of the World Trade Center towers to be completed, the 72 floor mixed use buildings maintains a dignified but respectful presence along the New York City skyline. The exterior consists entirely of ultra clear glass, which not only allows sunlight to flood the interior, but also reflects its surroundings achieving a unique appearance. Similarly, the interior lobby made of polished black granite reflects the September 11 Memorial located right outside; a building of interior and exterior reflections, it effectively erases itself and disappears.
Given that the building will provide 1.8 million square feet of office space on the upper levels, the interior features column free corners and uninterrupted open spaces allowing the tenant to most easily organize the most ideal work environment. In addition to this, the lower levels provide retail space and access to the underground transportation network that connects to adjacent buildings, as well as the World Trade Center transit hub, which serves to connect Lower Manhattan with surrounding areas.
The building will feature many structural enhancements, including a reinforced concrete core and columns with steel girders and beams. Safety systems will be designed to exceed New York City building code and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey requirements. Designed in accordance with the highest energy efficiency standards, World Trade Center Tower 4 will seek to achieve the Gold standard under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) by the U.S. Green Building Council.
